The dog owner who wants to build a dog house may want to look for

One important consideration when building a dog house is the size of
the dog. The total size of the dog house and the opening should

weather. Any materials exposed to the elements should be weather
resistant.

has to be taller than the rear and the top of the sides of the dog
house are cut to match the incline of the roof from the front of the
dog house to the back.
Many dog house designs have smaller front and back walls than the
sides, but this limits the placement of the entrance. Some dog house
instructions suggest that the entrance be cut off center to give the
dog some relief from rain and wind.
The dog house needs to be elevated a couple inches from the ground. If
the dog house is against the ground, the moisture from the ground may
start to rot the dog house floor. Also, a raised dog house prevents
rainwater from entering the dog house.
