Most people understand that dogs are a pack animal that likes to live in a group. The dog instinctively understands the advantages of being in a pack and has social instincts that it can express within a group. In this context, a new dog or puppy that comes into your home is joining your pack and sees you or the head of the family as the pack leader. The dog looks to the pack leader for guidance and how to behave. It accepts that this is the pack leaders job and that the rules that are laid out are to be followed or it will be disciplined by the leader. This is what obedience training is all about. It is a way of teaching your dog the rules of the pack and the way to behave in the wider community. And your dog wants to learn these skills that you have to teach.

So what should you teach your pet ? For many people their approach to obedience training is half hearted because they don't know what to teach or how to do it. It also takes time and consistency to get your message across to your dog. Eventually they lose the will to enforce the rules they have leaid down and the dog becomes confused. However it is important to teach your dog and ensure that he understands them. Here are the key skills that your dog should know so that you can control it and it can live safely in the human world.

It should be able to socialize with humans and other animals in the home (specifically your family members and other pets like dogs and cats).

It must be trusting of people and be comfortable being touched by humans.

It must be able to control it's aggressive tendencies.

It must accept restraint. For instance, it should know how to walk on a lead in a calm manner without getting distracted by things around it.

It should be able to respond to your calls, especially coming when you call it.

It should go to the toilet in a specific place set by the pack leader.

It should accept being at home on it's own every once in a while.

If it can learn these skills then your pet will fit into the human world comfortably and will be a popular part of your own family.

The sit stay fetch training course will give you the techniques and skills to teach your dog how to do all these things and more besides. It concentrates on the key skill, as mentioned above but it also has section which teach more advanced obedience training commands.

The sit stay fetch course e-book is the heart of the package. It is a content rich book that aims to teach you the philosophy behind obedience training and how to understand the psychology behind the course. It shows you how to understand what the dog is thinking. It also covers many of the bad behavioral traits that dogs have and explains why they do these things and how to stop them.

The next section of the book is teaching the obedience commands. I think this is done well. For each command it is broken down into steps. Each step has a photograph and text that explains what you must do. For each command there are 4 or 5 photos and text that effectively communicate what to do. After looking at a command and trying it a few times you will have soon memorized it and be teaching your dog. The commands feature all the essential commands that you need and a few more advanced commands. There are a few extra e-books that come with the total package. They cover topics like grooming your dog and training it for security work. An additional book that is really useful is on how to become a pack leader. For me this is an important lesson to learn as it will underpin all the training that you do with your dog in the future.

The main course also comes as mp3 files. This means you can load them into your ipod or copy them to cd and listen to them whenever you like. For the commands, you can listen to them as you are training your dog which is really useful.

The sit stay fetch is best downloaded because you can be using it within 30 minutes of purchase.

About the Author:

Learn more about sit stay fetch and dog health and training tips at doghealthncare.com.
